Making a difference

Many years ago, I made the decision to do my part by trying to make a difference in the world. I feel very fortunate to have played in the NHL and I feel it’s my duty to give back to as many causes as possible. When I die, I don’t want to be remembered as simply an enforcer who fought for a living or for how much money I made. I want to be remembered for how I lived my life... for the type of human being I was. In my opinion, being an athlete doesn’t define you as a human being; the person you are on the inside does. Currently, I’m a proud ambassador for World Vision and have built a hospital with them and the NHLPA in Haiti called the Grace Children Hospital. I’m a spokesperson for the Mira Foundation. We help provide dogs to visually-impaired people so they can have some form of autonomy. I’m an ambassador for Team-In-Training which is an important Foundation that specializes in cancer research. I do hospital visits, school visits and support many other charities. I do my best to help people in the need and do my part to make this world a better place. God bless you all.
